The Beach... sort of

A few minutes north of us we have a TINY little beach. It's at a park in Little Elm off of Lake Lewisville. Since it has been so crazy hot here lately, we took a trip up to the "beach" on Wednesday. The kids had a great time. It was almost too hot when we first got there but as the sun started to dip down it became more pleasant. We brought our dinner up... perhaps a mistake since most of it ended up a little sandy. May have to rethink the food next time.



Asher had a fantastic time with the shovels and had no problems crawling right into the water and splashing around. So somebody help me understand why the bathtub is such a place of terror for him?



Phia was equally happy, and true to her social little self found a friend named Jessica to play with part way through the afternoon.



Daphne helped build a rather impressive sandcastle (of which we have no picture) and ferried Asher all around.

Aidan spend most of his time trying to get his large plastic pirate ship to float. But Alas, his ship turned out to be less than sea worthy and he let Asher bury it in the sand.

All in all a good summer day.

Our Baby is One

Today Asher turns one. It seems like he's been with us forever. Here are a few pictures of the little guy taken two nights ago while he was enjoying his mashed potatoes. (More pictures of his big day tomorrow... we're off to the farm!)

Finally...

A quilt for ME. Bren got me this fabric for my birthday two years ago and the blocks have slowly but surely come together. It's 65 inches by 69 inches, the biggest quilt I've made so far. I managed to get it all bound up last week and it has soared to the top of my list of favorite things. It's made entirely of a fabric line called "Wonderland" by Momo.

Bunnies, Baseball, and Boxes...

Sophie's preschool had a really fun Easter party on Thursday. The kids hunted eggs, took many a swipe at a bunny head pinata, and sang songs for adoring parents. Sophie chose all pink for the occasion. (Shocker!)



Aidan is back on the Red Raiders this year for his first coach pitch season. He's still learning all the particulars of the game, but seems to get better each week. He's consistently hitting the coach's pitches rather than off the tee. I think he might be close to loving baseball season as much as his mother. (Cue eye roll from Bren)







We (meaning me) are working hard to get all our stuffed packed and ready to move back to our house in The Colony next month. Asher is working equally hard to empty all the boxes that I don't get tape on fast enough.



Now I'm off to secure the backyard toys and relocate the tomato plants in case of severe weather tonight. We are already under a tornado watch. Some pretty amazing lightning last night and Sunday night. Whitney would have LOVED it.

Legoland

Aidan was able to spend most of today at Legoland in Grapevine with his best friend who is visiting from Indiana. They had a blast building, zooming on rides, and watching Lego movies with 3D and 4D elements. (Another reason for all of you to come and visit us in Texas!) Legoland has a "factory" part that shows you how Legos are made and you get to take home this cool yellow commemorative brick. (Aidan managed to smooth talk them into giving him a second brick for his Dad who really wanted to come to Legoland, but had to stay home) Aidan also came home with a Lego series 4 mini figure hazmat guy from the gift shop that he promptly traded to Bren for the hockey player that Bren had scored at the Lego store last week.



We were also able to complete our collection of Halloween mini figures and I'm so excited to start the construction of the Lego grave yard that we are planning to display at Halloween. (Yes, it is a little early, but you have to understand how much I LOVE Halloween... I'm already planning Asher's costume) Do you think we should add the mad scientist? He's kind of Halloween-y.



Aidan has this book that shows all the Star Wars Lego sets from the beginning to 2009 and he looks at it all the time. The book has two pages devoted to the Star Wars mini sets that Lego gave away with it's Master Builder club memberships. We have always thought that we could easily construct most of the models from the Legos that we have... well, Bren ended up finding the instruction sheets here, and Aidan made this model last night. The small ones are really fun!

Creative Endeavors

So here's our little blog named for our family of squares. I hope to chronicle many of our creative endeavors. I thought I'd start with this snugly gem... a quilt just finished for my grandma. Made entirely of half-square triangles and backed with a super soft golden floral. It's rather sparsely quilted compared to some of the other quilts I've made and so it's really fluffy and soft. It's always hard for me to part with a quilt, but this one is definitely going to a good home.
